With homes and businesses getting bigger floor space, the need for a high efficiency dehumidifier is common. Many competitors promise humidity removal of up to 45 pints/day which is not enough for large areas requiring heavy-duty dehumidification.
Here’s one that tops the competition and puts other dehumidifiers to shame – the Aprilaire 1710 Basement and Crawlspace Dehumidifier. It has a quiet and powerful fan that can cover up to 2000 sq. ft.
Aprilaire 1710 Dehumidifier Specifications:
- Removes up to 90 pints/11.25 gallons per day (@ 60%RH, 80°f)
- Easy to use
- Automatic moisture level sensor
- Quiet & powerful 275 CFM fan
- No messy tanks to empty and clean
- Includes removable aluminum filter
- Frost protection
- Test-mode feature
- Intelligent ventilation
- Energy efficient
- Uses R410a refrigerant
- Features auto restart
Removes up to 90 pints/11.25 gallons per day
Provides up to three times the moisture removing capacity compared to standard portable dehumidifiers. Other units only provide up to 45 pints/day of moisture removal – this does more in the same time frame.
Easy to use
Plug the Aprilaire 1710 Basement and Crawlspace Dehumidifier in, set the desired humidity level and it’s ready to roll. No need for more adjustments.
Automatic moisture level sensor
Automatically senses moisture levels and decides when to run in order to maintain optimum humidity levels in your home, making this unit a set-and-forget equipment.
Quiet & powerful 275 CFM fan
The Aprilaire 1710 Basement and Crawlspace Dehumidifier operates on a low-noise level considering the amount of air that is moving – thanks to the sturdy and well-built compressor construction.
No messy tanks to empty and clean
Optional water drainage because this includes 1″ PVC condensate trap pipe which can be attached to a hose or condensate pump. Water that is accumulated automatically goes out of the unit into the drain outlet.
Includes removable aluminum filter
The MERV 8 air intake filter (can be washed or replaced annually depending on conditions) is part of the deal. It is easily accessible from both sides of the unit.
Frost protection
The low-temperature sensor shuts down the unit to prevent frost that can clog the system and reduce efficiency.
Test-mode feature
Built-in test button ensures proper operation prior to using the humidifier.
Intelligent ventilation
It has a built-in intelligent ventilation system that compensates for indoor conditions, thus improving air quality.
Energy efficient
The high energy efficiency feature removes more moisture per kilowatt/hour (which is 50% more than most leading portable dehumidifieres).
Features auto restart
Power outage is one of the many causes of compressor failure. With the unit’s auto-restart feature, the compressor runs on a clean start-up for a fail-safe operation.
Aprilaire 1710 Dehumidifier At A Glance…
Pros:
- Provides up to three times the moisture removing capacity compared to standard portable dehumidifiers

Pure garbage~!! AprilAire products are total disasters
I purchased two whole house dehumidifiers from April Air and one whole house humidifier.
In a matter of two years all three units failed.
The whole house humidifier failed when the solenoid seized and flooded my basement.
The smaller (Model 1700) unit was equipped with a cheap Mexican made capacitor that burst, leaking oil all over the circuit board.
The capacitor was so cheaply made that it did not even have the microfarad and voltages inked onto it and April Air tech was unable to even guess at a replacement. I was on my own.
The larger unit (model 1720) broke twice. The first time the fan motor failed. This is a unique fan construction with the motor and stator integral with the squirrel cage blower, whose design was so odd that no motor repair company would touch it. April Air wanted over $700.00 for a lousy replacement bower fan.
I sourced that odd ball fan from Newark for a little over $200.00. So, thanks to April Air engineers and their fancy pants blower fan it was impossible to substitute anything else.
The second time it failed the compressor pump seized. I called April Air and the only thing I could get out of their tech people was the statement that “The compressor seized?” posed as a question. That was it. The tech guy wouldn’t venture any more.
Those people are worst than worthless. Their products are pure trash.
They treat you like a second class pariah when you call them. They manifest an active distaste for homeowners, a contempt that they don’t even try to hide.
April Air products are the single worst manufactured products I have ever had the misery to own.
